Consistency is the Strategy
Hello hello,
How are things with you? I hope you're keeping well, staying positive, and in good spirits in spite of it all. You’re probably wondering what “it all” is. Well, adulting is the It. LOL.
My reflections today were sparked by a soft skills training session I attended at work, themed "Planning Your Professional Growth." The facilitator shared a number of helpful insights on how we can navigate our careers intentionally and advocate for our development.
One concept that really stood out for me was Kaizen — a Japanese philosophy that focuses on continuous improvement through small, consistent steps rather than dramatic overhauls. It’s a simple but powerful reminder that we don’t always need to wait for a big break or sweeping career moves to feel like we’re making progress.
Sometimes, progress is:
Updating your CV even when you’re not job hunting
Reaching out to a mentor for a check-in
Blocking 30 minutes to read an industry article
Saying yes to that stretch project that makes you a little nervous
Each of these small actions adds up over time. That’s the beauty of Kaizen. It’s not about making giant leaps; it’s about gentle, intentional forward motion.
In my view, the secret ingredient to making Kaizen work is consistency. If you're consistent with the little steps, they’ll eventually lead you to meaningful growth and impact.
As we head into the weekend, I’m holding onto this thought: small steps still move you forward.
What’s one Kaizen-style step you can take this week toward your growth?
With intention and momentum, Modupe
